A Shade of Blood (#2 A Shade of Vampire) by Bella Forrest

Synopsis

In A Shade Of Blood, Bella Forrest transports you deeper into a unique, enthralling and beautifully sensitive story. Prepare to be lost in its pages…

When Sofia Claremont was kidnapped to a sunless island, uncharted by any map and ruled by the most powerful vampire coven on the planet, she believed she’d forever be a captive of its dark ruler, Derek Novak.

Now, after months of surviving an endless night, the morning sun may soon rise again for Sofia. Something has possessed Derek’s heart and he offers her a gift no human slave has ever been given in the history of his cursed island: escape.

High school, prom and a chance to move on with her life now await her.

But will she be able to forget the horrors that steal her sleep away at night? … and the feelings that haunt her for that tormented prince of darkness?

What I Think

Well this book is action packed with so many things happening, you jump from on the island with Derek with his point of view and then you have Sofia's as well as Ben's point of view back on the mainland, then you also have Lucas in the mix in this book. I'm still loving the story line but i think if there is anymore people's point of view then it will be to much to follow for me anyway. the story is moving on very nicely and it is still a page turner.

Derek is having a rough time on the island without Sofia and some of the other vampires think he has lost it as he is getting everyone trained ready for batter, but its not silly as it sounds, After Derek found out the Lucas was the one who attacked Sofia he wants to punish him but of course Lucas runs and leaves the island but not before dragging vampires down with him.

Sofia isn't having a great time herself with nightmares every night with little messages she doesn't understand but she has this one message over and over again. Sofia sometimes put Derek in a bad position in front of the vampires and expects him to stand by him, sometime soon i think she is going to push to far.

Ben well i really don't like him i don't know why. it might be because he is cocky, thinks he is almighty that every girl wants him and thinks they are going to drop to his feet. once he got back to the mainland he was all about Sofia he wanted her to be his girlfriend, he was not happy that she had fallen for Derek, in his eyes she was his and no ones else.

I recommend this book to all my followers that loved the twilight series, you would enjoy this series just as much if not more. I'am giving this book a 5 reader rating and putting it on my must reads for 2016.

Other Readers Reviews

Honestly, I rarely write reviews unless the book I read was either blown out of the water it was so good or it was just so awful I couldn't finish it. This book did more than blow it out of the water. I find it redundant to review every book in the series but I find myself reviewing everyone from A Shade Of Vampire.

There were two major plot twists that left me wide eyed and re-reading several times to let it sink in. WOW. Just WOW. This book was fantastic. I think it even out did the first book, I couldn't wait to read the third book and now that I finished the third book, I am absolutely itching to read the last.... even though this is a series I DON'T want to end!

This book surpasses Twilight fifteen hundred times over. How this series has not gone main stream is honestly beyond me!
(Chances are, if this author has another series, I'd read it because I absolutely LOVE her style!)

a must read!!!!!....another great book in the series.
We are all burdened by choices. Sophia helps Derek to see that he has goodness in him and to not tap into the darkness which is so easy to do.
Love always finds a way to beat the odds....... it may not always be an easy victory but it is always worth the fight.

Synopsis

On the evening of Sofia Claremont's seventeenth birthday, she is sucked into a nightmare from which she cannot wake.

A quiet evening walk along a beach brings her face to face with a dangerous pale creature that craves much more than her blood.

She is kidnapped to an island where the sun is eternally forbidden to shine.
An island uncharted by any map and ruled by the most powerful vampire coven on the planet. She wakes here as a slave, a captive in chains.

Sofia's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn when she is the one selected out of hundreds of girls to join the harem of Derek Novak, the dark royal Prince.

Despite his addiction to power and obsessive thirst for her blood, Sofia soon realizes that the safest place on the island is within his quarters, and she must do all within her power to win him over if she is to survive even one more night.

Will she succeed? ...or is she destined to the same fate that all other girls have met at the hands of the Novaks?

What I Think

Its been a while since reading something that has anything to do with Vampires in it, and i found it interesting on how different authors describe them. I really liked the way Bella made them the evil as we know that is what they are, but the prince being the most nastiest of them all (well he was supposed to be) had his moments after his awakening.

Sofia well what can i say she was the normal female character, that got taken and woke up in a cell where Lucas was willing to take her as his own but his sister stop him saying noone was to touch her or the others that got taken that night as they were Derek's and he was only aloud to have them if Derek didn't what them.

Derek "The Prince" and the main Vampire in the book has just woken up from a 400 year sleep to find a lot has changed. The first meeting between Derek and Sofia was just after he woke and was at his hungriest and the four girls (Sofia being one of them ) was for him to feed on but that didn't happen.

I really enjoyed reading this book and will continue reading the rest of the series, I also liked how the point of view changed from Derek to Sofia. I recommend this book to anyone that that likes the vampire books (twilight saga, Hush Hush series) i really think you would enjoy it as much as i did. I'm giving this book a 4 reader rating because i loved it.

Other Readers Reviews

So the only two reasons I bought this book too read were, 1: It was .99 so I wasn't loosing much had I bought once again another boring annoying book. 2: the reviews. I couldn't help but notice all of the good reviews on it. The quick summary about the book did this novel no justice. My first impression was "Great another cheesy vampire series". My gut told me to give it a chance so I did. I am SOOOOOO beyond glad I did, because I am now obsessed with this series.

The two main characters are actually SMART! Hard to believe right? Sophia is so smart, and rather than being some sick puppy love that is borderline obsessive and an unhealthy relationship, they're actually good for each other. For once a book where the relationship's aren't consistently doubting each other and not communicating their feelings. Cannot wait to finish this series, then again I wish it could last a lifetime! Hate when I finish a book that I know will take a LOT to top.

I was apprehensive when I saw the title of this book; instantly picturing a victimized Annastasia Steel cuffed to a medieval vampire torture device with a fanged Christian Grey hovering over her with who-knows-what in mind. What a wonderful surprise for me then when I started reading and found A Shade of Vampire an utterly enthralling, highly exciting and beautifully sensitive story. Sofia Claremont, the main character, who is captured and taken to the Blood Shade, home of the Novak vampire family and their coven, is not at all a victim. She has this to say about Victimhood:
"I know an excuse when I hear one. Don't you dare deceive yourself into believing that you're the victim."

She is also not stupidly rebellious, brave or tough, and knows when to stand down for her own good when the odds are stacked against her. As the story unfolds we get to meet Lucas the not so nice brother, Ben - Sofia's more than best friend, Corrine the witch, and several very interesting, well crafted characters; and, yes, vampires also have some delicious intrigue in their society!

This story gets started and just never gives the reader a chance to get bored. Although fast paced, I still understood the plot and characters with the greatest ease. The author works information about the vampire world and society into conversations thus sparing the reader lengthy descriptions of the who, what, why, where and how.

I had thought that I was utterly immune to the handsome, romantic vampire male but, Derek Novak, the hero of this book, made me reconsider this attitude. The romantic relationship that develops during the story is so tender, caring and bittersweet that it often brought tears to my eyes while smiling at the same time. Talk about fate sealed with a kiss ... Oops, before I say too much, let me just point out that the title of the book was actually very well chosen.

I highly recommend this book to readers of paranormal romance or to anybody who just loves a thrilling, quick read with a liberal measure of depth and wisdom to it. Five stars and a standing ovation for A Shade of Vampire and its wonderful author, Bella Forrest. (Ellen Fritz)
